What is Reproductive
Endocrinology_
Reproductive Endocrinology is the highly specialized field that deals with
infertility, female reproductive hormones, and female reproductive surgery.
Specialists in Reproductive Endocrinology are called Reproductive Endocrinologists.
Most Reproductive Endocrinologists limit their practice to infertility and
its related procedures. However, since Reproductive Endocrinologists have such specialized
training in endocrinology (hormones) and reproductive surgery, many accept patients with
complex hormonal problems or those who need advanced reproductive surgery, even
though they may not have fertility problems.
The
field of Reproductive Endocrinology is a "subspecialty" of obstetrics and
gynecology. Reproductive Endocrinologists must first complete their training as
Obstetrician/ Gynecologists before they can be accepted to a "Fellowship"
program in Reproductive Endocrinology. The Reproductive Endocrinology
Fellowship involves an additional two years of study, research, and patient care.
