Donor
Egg IVF:
Couples
choose Donor Egg IVF when the wife cannot produce eggs herself; for example if
her ovaries have been surgically removed, if she has had premature menopause, or
simply if she has reached the point in her reproductive life when her ovaries do
not produce viable eggs. Sometimes
a couple also chooses this path due to a genetic condition that makes advisable
not to use the wife’s eggs.
Prior to accepting a
couple as candidates for donor egg IVF, they are given a thorough medical and
psychological screening. The donor is also carefully screened, and the
couple is provided with detailed information about their potential donor.
Following
the screening phase, the egg donor undergoes a regular IVF cycle of hormonal
stimulation and harvesting of eggs. These
are then inseminated in our laboratory with semen provided by the receppient's
husband. The resulting embryos are
transferred to the wife’s uterus.
Because
only donors with proven fertility have been chosen, studies have found that the
pregnancy rate is even higher with donor egg IVF than with a conventional IVF. |
